Christmas Cake-Off 2010 Round 1 Poll

As the rain began to fall gently over the east coast of New Zealand’s South Island, the Cake Club began the first round of a highly competitive Baking Challenge, heralded by the sound of sweet singing from the minstrels’ gallery.

Good King Wenceslas looked out on the Cakes by Nina.
When the cream fell round about Tart au Katarina,
Brightly shone the spoons and forks of the Cake Club members
When these hungry souls did walk into Cake December.

“Hither, Helen, stand by me, if thou hast an entry,
Yonder peasant, who is she? Her cake looks elementary.”
“No, not so, that cake is fine, elegant and tasty.
Robyn’s cake may take the prize, do not be so hasty.”

“Bring me cake and bring me wine, bring me cream and butter,
Thou and I will tuck in now, til our stomachs stutter.”
Cake Club valiantly went forth, forth they went together
Ate through cakes both sweet and large, despite bitter weather.

The entries into Round 1 of the Christmas Cake-Off 2010 can be relived upon this notable blog:

Nina’s Rhubarb and strawberry tarts

Robyn’s White chocolate Christmas cake

Katarina’s Chocolate chilli cupcakes

Helen’s Cheesemas Pudding

You can vote for these cakes in the polls below, on grounds of taste, aesthetics and originality. Choose your favourite of the four for each category. The poll will close when Round 2 becomes available, so don’t forget to cast your vote soon! The results from all rounds will be revealed together on Christmas Eve.
